The structures (3) are blood platelets, involved in blood clotting
They are about 3-4 microns in diameter, ie about half the diameter of a red blood cell
Because only structures in the central part of the cell, and not the whole cell, have stained with the dyes used in this preparation, the platelets appear smaller than they really are
