HN1.H1.2 +D1 Parotid Gland

Parotid Gland:

  • The parotid gland, on each side, is located anterior and inferior to the external auditory meatus
  • The parotid gland is the largest of the salivary glands
  • The glandular acini of the parotid gland are enclosed within a thin capsule of dense connective tissue
  • The secretory cells are all serous and produce a range of enzymes
  • However, the secretions do have a high content of amylase
