AB1.H1.3D4 Liver Organisation

Liver Organisation:

  • Identify the rows of hepatocytes
  • Examine the space between a row of hepatocytes and the blood sinusoids that run parallel with it
  • In this space you can see some small densely stained nuclei
  • These are the nuclei of endothelial cells lining the blood sinusoids or of macrophages which are present in the cell wall of the sinusoid interspersed between the endothelial cells
  • In the liver, these macrophages are known as Kupffer cells
  • Liver Micrograph

This high magnification micrograph shows a division of an hepatic vein with blood sinusoids draining towards it

Question:

Which blood vessels deliver blood into the sinusoids?
