PP1.H2.2 The Ureter
The Ureter:
- The kidney produces urine which is delivered into the renal pelvis at the hilus of the kidney
- The renal pelvis is a funnel like structure which delivers the urine into the ureter for passage to the urinary bladder
- The ureter is a muscular tube
- It is lined by transitional epithelium
- The ureter wall contains 2-3 layers of smooth muscle
- Peristaltic contractions of the smooth muscle carry droplets of urine along the ureter to the bladder
