- a = Exocrine (duct present, arrows)
- b = Endocrine (no duct present, but lots of capillaries - small densely stained nuclei (arrows) are mostly in epithelial cells lining capillaries)
In exocrine glands, at least in multicellular exocrine glands, the product of the secretory cells is delivered to its point of need through a duct system
In endocrine glands, by definition, the product passes from the secretory cells into blood vessels for delivery to the target structure
