VC1.H1.6 +D1 +D2 Peripheral Nerve

Peripheral Nerve: Low Power

low power of a peripheral nerve
  • In the low power of a peripheral nerve notice the numerous axons surrounded by a dense connective tissue sheath
  • This sheath is known as the epineurium

Peripheral Nerve: High Power

high power of a peripheral nerve
  • In the high power of a peripheral nerve notice that the axons are not all the same diameter
  • Other cells present include the support cells for axons, Schwann cells and endothelial cells of blood vessels
  • Note the absence of neuronal cell bodies

Peripheral Nerve:

High Power Transverse White Matter
  • Peripheral nerves contain only axons, and their support cells which are known as Schwann cells
  • They may contain (and are likely to contain) axons of both motor and sensory nerves

Where might the cell body of the sensory nerve be located?
Where might the cell body of the motor nerve be located?
What is the equivalent to the epineurium around the spinal cord and brain?
