TH2.H1.5 Regression Atrophy of Glandular Tissue

Regression / Atrophy of Glandular Tissue:

  • After lactation ceases there is regression of the glandular tissue, both the secretory elements and the duct elements
  • Some cells degenerate although the amount of glandular tissue does not usually reduce to the amounts present prior to pregnancy
  • At the menopause there is an extensive atrophy of glandular tissue although some remnants of the duct system remain
  • The connective tissue generally becomes more dense with a reduction in the amount of fat deposited between the septae
