VC1.H2.5 Sensory Receptors

Sensory Receptors:

    • The skin contains many accessory structures including hair follicles, sweat glands and sensory receptors
    • The sensory receptors in skin are associated with the sensory (afferent) nerves which carry information about the environment in which we live from the skin to the spinal cord (or brain)
    • They, therefore, form part of the spinal nerve arcs which control our body actions, such as our body wall muscles

How many stimuli can you think of which are detected by sensory receptors in your skin?
