AB1.H1.3D3 Liver Organisation

Liver Organisation:

  • In this micrograph identify the portal tract
  • It is an area of loose connective tissue that supports a division of the hepatic portal vein (1), the hepatic artery (2) and the biliary tree (3)
  • A branch of an hepatic vein (4) is also shown
  • Such branches of hepatic veins drain into 3 or 4 large hepatic veins which leave the liver on its posterior surface
  • Notice that the sinusoids and rows of hepatocytes run between the portal tract and the hepatic vein
  • Liver Micrograph

This low magnification micrograph shows the rows of liver cells (hepatocytes) lying between blood sinusoids

Question:

Where do the three tubes (1, 2 and 3) enter/leave the liver?
Where do the hepatic veins that leave the liver drain into?
