UL2.H2.2 +D1 Hyalin Cartilage

Hyalin Cartilage:

  • Hyalin cartilage is the most common type of cartilage
  • It is found in the tracheal rings of cartilage
  • In babies, most of our long bones are formed of hyalin cartilage
  • As we grow, this cartilage is gradually replaced by bone
  • In synovial joints, the articulating surfaces of the bones are covered with a thin layer of hyalin (articulating) cartilage

Micrograph of Hyalin Cartilage:

  • In this micrograph of a developing bone the diaphysis has been replaced by bone (B) but the epiphysis is formed of developing cartilage (HC)
