PP2.H1.10 +D1 Seminal Vesicles

Seminal Vesicles:

  • The paired seminal vesicles each consist of a coiled tubular gland supported by connective tissue and surrounded by a smooth muscle wall
  • The tubular gland lining is extensively folded
  • It is composed of a simple (or pseudostratified) columnar epithelium which produce a nutrient rich secretion to support the spermatozoa when they are deposited in the female genital tract
  • The muscular wall of the seminal vesicles contracts during ejaculation
  • Question:

The secretions from the seminal vesicle form one part of the ejaculate, what are the other two parts?

    Micrograph of Seminal Vesicles:

      Micrograph of Ductus Deferens
      1. Folded glandular epithelium
      2. Smooth muscle wall
