University professor among those recognised for application of social science to real world problems

A University of Aberdeen professor is among 37 leading social scientists recognised for the contribution their work makes to the public.

Zaheer Khan, a Professor in Strategy and International Business at the University’s Business School, has been made a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

The Academy’s Fellowship is made up of distinguished individuals from academic, public and private sectors, across the full breadth of the social sciences.

Fellows are recognised through an independent peer review process which examines the ways in which their leadership, scholarship, applied research, policymaking and practice, has helped to deepen the understanding of, and address, some of the toughest challenges facing our society and the world.

Professor Khan’s research focuses on global technology management, with a particular focus on knowledge transfer through foreign direct investment to emerging economies, employee emotional resilience in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, post-entry survival of international new ventures, and multinational enterprises’ CSR and sustainability practices in emerging markets.

His work has appeared in leading International Business Strategy, and interdisciplinary Business Management journals. He is also the Founding Director of the Africa-Asia Centre for Sustainability, launched in 2021.

As a Fellow he joins 1400 other leading names and is part of a community which has helped establish the UK’s position as a global leader in the social sciences.

Professor Khan said: “It is a great honour to be recognised by the Academy for contributions to Social Sciences and to join an outstanding community of social scientists making a difference to the public in many different ways.”

Professor Roger Goodman, President of the Academy of Social Sciences, said: “We are delighted to welcome 37 talented fellows to the Academy this Spring. Our new Fellows have been selected for the excellence of their research, impact, thought leadership, and the practical application of social science to real world problems. I congratulate them all and look forward to collaborating with them in promoting high quality social science in the UK and across the world.”
