Food safety under the microscope

Improving food safety is the topic under discussion at the latest Cafe MED event this Monday, April 24th.

Professor Norval Strachan, Chair in Physics at the University of Aberdeen and Chief Scientific Adviser for Food Standards Scotland, and Dr Chris McGuigan, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Fife will share the latest research into food safety.

Professor Strachan said: "We will discuss what can and is being done to reduce the risk of food poisoning in Scotland, from the farm to your kitchen.

"We will give an overview of techniques covering good hygienic practices, as well as epidemiology and molecular biology.

"This will be an informal and interactive discussion and we welcome questions and participation from the audience."

The event is part of the University of Aberdeen’s popular Cafe MED series which is hosted by the University’s Public Engagement with Research Unit. The Café MED series invites leading researchers and clinicians to discuss how current research is being translated into improved treatments and care in an informal café setting.  This event will be held at the Suttie Centre Lecture Theatre , Foresterhill from 6pm to 8pm on Monday 24 April and is free to attend.
