We will begin the Classroom/Lecture Theatre refresh on 1 July 2026, so it is essential you let us know your requirements before Tuesday 30 June 2026. If you do not, we cannot guarantee the software will be available as required.
We will be using Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Edge will be the default browser.
Departmental Teaching Software
Here is the live list of proposed upgrades to software. For academic year 2026/27, please let us know if you require any of the following:
-
New applications
-
Existing applications
-
Upgrades
-
Specific configurations
Please do not assume that someone else will request commonly used software, or that colleagues will request software on your behalf.
Remember that classroom software must be licensed for concurrent use. If you have any queries about licensing, please get in touch. New software version updates can only proceed if we can acquire the licence and install before the 1 July deadline. If this is not possible, the software version will remain the same until the next classroom refresh, which is scheduled for Summer 2027.
Please contact the IT service desk if you have any questions or comments.
Science Teaching Hub
The laptop devices in the Science Teaching Hub (STH) run a different software portfolio. If you have any requirements for teaching software on these devices, then please make a separate request to the IT Service Desk with specific reference to the STH. Changes made to standard classroom devices may not be reflected on the STH devices.
The PCs at the teaching stations in the labs will be refreshed in line with our standard lecture theatre build.
Security patches and software updates
To maintain our Digital Security, we may have to update software during term-time or, in extreme cases, remove software completely if security patches are no longer available.
