Biography

 

Dr Jane Smith is a Clinical Lecturer whose work bridges clinical dentistry and educational research, with a strong focus on understanding and addressing differential attainment and the award gap within dental education. She completed her BDS at the University of Glasgow, followed by an MSc at the University of Bristol, an MSc in Clinical Education at the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD in Clinical Education at the University of Aberdeen.

Dr Smith is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds the MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, reflecting her commitment to both clinical practice and academic excellence.

Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, where she contributes to clinical skills development, educational supervision, mentoring, and the broader enhancement of the learning experience. Her research aims to promote fairness, equity, and improved outcomes for all learners, with particular interest in performance disparities across training pathways.

Dr Smith is dedicated to advancing evidence‑based educational practice and supporting the next generation of dental professionals through high‑quality teaching and research‑informed educational leadership.
