Dear Colleagues
Further to our call for the role of Dean for Impact & Engagement, I am delighted to announce that following a competitive internal application and interview recruitment process Professor Mirela Delibegovic, FRSE, has been appointed to the role effective from 1 September 2025.
Mirela will take the key role in promoting the development of impactful research, it’s engagement with key stakeholders, and progression into societal impact and case studies for submission into REF2029 and beyond. She will provide support for research-led Aberdeen 2040 commitments around stakeholder engagement and will lead on the development of both national and international academic research partnerships.
Mirela is the Regius Chair of Physiology, where her research broadly focusses on causes and consequences of development of diabetes and heart disease. She has wide collaborations nationally and internationally.
Mirela previously served as the Dean for Industrial Engagement in Research and Knowledge Exchange and is well known to the academic community for her previous work on the University Senate and the Court.
I am very much looking forward to working with Mirela in her role as Dean, and I am sure you will join me in congratulating her on this appointment.
Best wishes
Nick
