Dear colleagues,
What a terrific few days we’ve just experienced with the Tall Ship Races Aberdeen. While the sun may have been missing for some of it, the event really has seen the city shine – and with it, the University.
Scotland’s largest free family event this year, an estimated 400,000 visitors have enjoyed all the four-day festival had to offer and I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in making our role in this amazing event such a success.
This includes all those on our stand in the Discovery Zone who helped thousands of people from all walks of life engage with the world-class research being undertaken across the Schools of Geosciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Law and LLMVC, as well as the National Decommissioning Centre, the Rowett Institute, the Confucius Institute, the Marine Biodiversity Centre and others.
The staff and student volunteers who provided on the ground support to the wider event as guides, marshals, medics and much more.
The team of Professional Services staff and student interns who generated a dedicated webpage and captured some outstanding photography, video and social media content to help alumni and others in our University community around the world share in the Races experience.
The on-campus teams who ensured our accommodation offering was exemplary, our Visitor Centre on the High Street was open for business and our museums and grounds ready for the public.
And all those who helped stage this morning’s Staff Wellbeing event at the Sir Duncan Rice Library where around 200 people came together to watch the Parade of Sail as the ships left Aberdeen on the next stage of their journey.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, lots of people have contributed in many different ways and every single one is to be congratulated for their effort.
I am extraordinarily proud of the University’s profile in this international event and of everyone involved for pulling together to deliver a truly outstanding result.
Thank you all
Pete
