Principal’s Teaching Excellence Award (PTEA) 2019/2020

All staff who teach and/or support learning (including lecturers, teaching fellows, professional services staff or PhD students who teach) are welcome to submit a teaching case study. This is an individual award, however, in exceptional circumstances it may be appropriate for a maximum of two individuals who are working in the same way, on the same things, on the same initiative, to apply together.

Process

  1. From 2nd  September 2019, colleagues are invited to submit their example using the Principal’s Teaching Excellence Award 2019/2020 application form which you can find here; each section should be no more than 150 words in length (900 words total).
  2. The completed form will be submitted to the Centre for Academic Development by the 29th November 2019. You will be informed of the outcome within four weeks of submission.
  3. On 16th December 2019, a Panel of Senior Fellows of the Higher Education Academy will award three case studies of £500 each to support the continuation of good teaching practice. A fourth example will be selected to receive the Principal’s Teaching Excellence Award, receiving a larger prize of £1,000.
  4. Whether they win a prize or not, all case studies will be eligible to be uploaded directly to the ‘Current Case Studies section of the Teaching and Learning, Good Practice webpage . To ensure that consistent, high quality examples are showcased, all case studies will be subject to an institutional quality oversight by peer review. Where the Panel decides that a case study is not quite ready to be uploaded to the Good Practice webpage, feedback will be provided to help to enable this in the future.
  5. Prize-winners will be invited to a celebratory event on 12th March 2020. If you plan to attend this event, if successful, please keep this date free in your diary.
  6. The Centre for Academic Development can provide further advice in advance of your submission if required. Please email: cad@abdn.ac.uk.
