The University is currently piloting the use of digital badges, a modern standards-based
approach recognising learners’ skills and achievements. Digital badges provide learners with a
verifiable, portable credential that showcases their skills and achievements in a trusted
shareable (on LinkedIn, CVs, etc) format.
Digital badges are awarded using Blackboard’s Milestone platform, which integrates with
MyAberdeen (powered by Blackboard), our institutional virtual learning environment. This
allows digital badges to be awarded either:
- Independently (for example to recognise participation in the ABDN Internship)
- Automatically upon successful completion of a course in MyAberdeen (for example the
UKRIO Research Integrity course)
If you are interested in piloting digital badges to recognise achievements, please email

Piloting Digital Badges for Recognising Class Reps
An outcome from the Task and Finish Group on Class Representation is to pilot the awarding of
a Class Representative badge to recognise the contribution made by class reps to the student
learning experience.
For awarding Class Representative badges, Schools should submit the names of class reps
who have met the minimum criteria (gathered feedback from fellow students, attended and
contributed to SSLC meetings, communicated effectively) over the past academic year (Term 1
or Term 2). Schools must do this using the Class Rep Digital Badge Nomination Form by Friday
1 May.
