NHS guidance on attending minor injury units

University first aiders have been advised on a new NHS booking process for attendance at minor injury units, which may be helpful for staff to know.

If you need to arrange for an injured person to attend the Minor Injury Unit at the A&E Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment you will now be required to call NHS24 on 111, following which:

  • The injury will be assessed

  • Where deemed necessary, an attendance time will be made for you

  • The injured person should attend the minor injury unit at the arranged time (they may require to be accompanied)

The process is intended to minimise footfall and crowding.  Please note that if the injury is considered to be severe or an emergency and requires immediate medical care, an ambulance can still be called. Further information can be found here
