TV Series and Movies to Watch this Winter

TV Series and Movies to Watch this Winter
2020-11-24

Yes, it’s November. Yes, you have a lot of assessments and lectures to catch up with (at least I know I do XD) but that does not mean that you should not have some time for yourself! Grab yourself a cup of hot cocoa and maybe some snacks because it’s time to get cozy with these TV shows and movies! I tried to include different genres however, I have to warn you, things might get really ‘cheesy’…

And if you still think you don’t have enough free time to watch these, you can always keep this list in mind if you run out of things to binge-watch during Christmas break!

1. Gilmore Girls

A scene from Gilmore Girls showing two characters walking up to a festively decorated house

I had to, I am sorry. I have watched this show at least three times and I couldn’t resist including it in this list! It’s seven seasons but it’s the perfect tv show for winter time, I promise. The story follows Lorelai and her daughter Rory, who are more like best friends than mother and daughter in the journey of maturing and understanding each other better. I will not get into much detail because it will ruin the magic but you should expect to see lots of literature and old movies references, quick dialogues as a result of the humongous amount of coffee that the main characters drink and some love triangles here and there. Not to forget that the story takes place in the small city of Stars Hollow, where they decorate according to the season. Tell me that this doesn’t make you want to wrap yourself up a blanket and watch the first episode…

2. Haunting of Bly Manor

A creepy, dimly lit scene with a car approaching an old looking manor house

Now this is a twist because this tv show belongs to the ‘scary category’ but it is still appropriate for a cold winter night. The Haunting of Bly Manor is ghost story but not exactly…Dani is hired to take care of two orphaned children in a house in the English countryside, which turns out to be a not-so-typical nanny experience. The creepy background noises? The strange plotline? The many un-answered questions? Everything will definitely get you hooked on this ‘gothic drama’.

3. Dash and Lily

What’s better than a teen romance taking place in New York during Christmas? Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you about how cheesy it might get cause I did :’). Lily leaves a notebook full of dares among the selves of her favorite bookstore hoping that the right boy will find it and will agree to play. Soon Dash finds the notebook and solves the first puzzles and he and Lily start to communicate by passing the notebook back and forth, by hiding it in different locations across New York. You’ll definitely find yourself in a Christmas mood after the very first episode.

4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The two main characters sit talking on a train

This is an all-time favourite and I had to include it. In case you haven’t watched it, winter is the best time to do so. The story follows Joel who discovers that his ex-girlfriend, Clementine, decided to erase him from her memories after their painful break-up. Heart-broken, Joel thinks that undergoing the same medical procedure, in order to forget Clementine, is the best choice for him… I can’t tell you anything else, just grab yourself a hot cup of tea and watch this movie!

5. The Holiday

A scene from the film showing the main character presenting a gift to two small children

A CLASSIC! I absolutely love Christmas movies and this one is probably on my top 5. Two women meet online and since they are both heart-broken and need a break from their everyday life they decide to swap homes. Iris finds herself in a mansion in California while Amanda arrives in a small house in the snow-laden English Countryside. You already know what is going to happen I know, but it is still entertaining and a cozy movie to watch on a cold night, under a blanket.

I hope you found something to add on your “to-watch” list and if you have already watched everything on the list you can always re-watch!
