The Rector is the students' representative, particularly in welfare matters, and sits on University Court. They are independent to the Students' Union and the University, allowing them to better represent the student body.
This means that they ensure all voices are heard and represented when making important decisions that affect students.
They can champion student causes and can make sure that these issues are fully aired in Court.
The Rector of the University of Aberdeen is elected by the registered students of the University.
Our current Rector Iona Fyfe commenced her three-year term as Rector on 1 January 2025. Read her manifesto.
