Please be advised that a phishing attack advertising a fake internship has been seen targeting students.
The scam directs students to submit personal information through a Google Form. Those who respond may then be contacted through WhatsApp, invited to online meetings and eventually asked to pay fraudulent registration or training fees.
Do not complete the form, engage with the sender or make any payment.
Warning signs include:
- Unsolicited internship or training offers at well-known companies.
- Claims of limited availability designed to create urgency.
- Requests for personal information through external forms.
- Being asked to move a conversation from University email to WhatsApp or another messaging service.
- Requests for registration, training or other upfront payments.
If you have already provided personal details, be particularly vigilant. Cyber criminals may use information you have supplied to create more convincing phishing messages or impersonation attempts or may contact you again requesting money or further information.
Actions you can take:
- If you have supplied a password, change it immediately and do not approve unexpected MFA requests.
- If you have provided banking or payment information, contact your bank or payment provider as soon as possible.
- Report any suspected phishing email via the Report button in Outlook
- Block and report on WhatsApp
