It's that time of year again - the sun is barely making an appearance, the cold wind is a bit too clingy and you somehow always pick the wrong jacket.
It is also the season of tucking yourself in a cosy scarf, sipping a hot toddy in the frosty air and wandering through streets sprinkled with twinkling lights brightening up the night sky.

Some helpful ways to manage symptoms of low mood
- ☀️Light Therapy: A healthy habit is to make sure you get out during daylight hours. A brisk walk in the crispy air is good for body and mind (exercise also helps!) Need a boost? Book a free 30-minute session with the Lightbox in the Multi-Faith chaplaincy: Book a session
- Eating a healthy, balanced diet matters. In Scotland, the Public Health Service recommends taking daily Vitamin D supplements from October - April. Some people are at higher risk of deficiency, and supplements can make a real difference to their health. Check what's recommended for you on: NHS Inform: Vitamin D
- Don't let the weather stop you! Go to a cosy event for a mood bost; cuddle with dogs at our Woofie Wednesdays sessions, come along to a Wellbeing cafe or meet up with others at a weekly Students’ Union event like the Community breakfast or free sports sessions!
- Talking therapies can make a real difference. Whether it is talking to friends or family, the University Counselling service or The Student Helpline - sharing how you feel can help both you and others understand how your mood changes during the winter, and explore support options right for you.
- If your symptoms are severe and affecting your ability to attend work or studies it might be a good idea to be assessed by your GP for further treatment. Click here if you are not yet registered with a Doctor.
