State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen - national bank holiday arrangements

Dear Students

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, I write with an update on our arrangements for the national bank holiday on Monday, 19 September, that will mark the State Funeral.

There will be no teaching on this day, and the University will be closed for all but essential services. Arrangements will be made by Schools to ensure that student learning is not impacted by this. All three University libraries will be closed.

Activities taking place this week to welcome our new and returning students back to campus continue as planned, with AUSA providing a range of events as part of Freshers’ Week and the University laying on its own programme of Welcome Week activities. This recognises the important role these events play in forming friendships and connections, particularly for our new students many of whom are arriving from across the world.

During this sad time our thoughts are with the Royal Family, including His Majesty King Charles III and our Chancellor, the Queen Consort. I offer King Charles my very best wishes on his accession.

The death of a monarch is a time of change and an opportunity for reflection, and our Chapel remains open for anyone wishing to take some time for quiet contemplation there. An online book of condolence has been opened by The Royal Household so that those who wish to write a message of sympathy can do so.

Best wishes George

George Boyne Principal and Vice-Chancellor
