The Childcare Fund provides financial assistance with formal childcare costs for dependent children. Formal childcare includes registered nurseries, childminders, after-school clubs and other registered providers of day care and education.
What the fund covers
The Childcare Fund covers:
- Support with formal childcare costs during term-time only
- Childcare must be provided by a registered provider (not a family member)
- 1 application per household or per child
Please note: The fund cannot support tuition fees, accommodation fees or non‑registered childcare
Eligibility
This fund is open to UK Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- You must be SAAS funded fulltime
- You must have applied for the full student loan available to you
- Childcare must be with a registered childcare provider
- Lone parents may be eligible for the Lone Parent Childcare Grant (LPCG)
International students are not currently eligible for the Childcare Fund.

Application steps
You must complete all of the steps below to apply for the Childcare Fund.
Once you have submitted your application will all the required evidence, you should receive a decision within 15 working days.
Application processing may take longer if:
- more evidence is required
- information is unclear
- it is a repeat application
The assessment team may request further documents at their discretion.
