The Information Security team has been alerted to potential increased Cyber threat activity linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Universities are attractive targets for state sponsored attackers in general due to their large, distributed IT infrastructures; types of data held and wide user base.
Objectives often include theft of research and intellectual property and user credential theft to facilitate further attacks. During times of conflict, these activities are likely to intensify, with a greater risk of carefully crafted phishing attacks attempting to gain access to user accounts.
Whilst the internal teams are continuing to monitor the situation and take appropriate action, it is critical that we all remain vigilant and report any suspicious emails or other forms of communications to the Directorate of Digital and Information Services.
