The New Year often feels like a fresh chapter - a time for renewal. But it can also bring pressure to set ambitious goals and stick to them. Whilst you don’t have to stop chasing those resolutions you might want to consider setting boundaries that protect and support your wellbeing instead.
Take a moment to reflect on the year that’s passed. Not to label it as good or bad, but to notice what it asked of you and how you responded. Perhaps you discovered new strengths, faced limits, or learned that wellbeing isn’t a checklist - it’s found in small, everyday actions. Whatever last year taught you, acknowledge it and carry those lessons forward.
Give yourself permission to slow down, adjust, and breathe. Make space to check in with yourself regularly:
- Am I looking after myself?
- Am I feeling overwhelmed right now?
- What is within my control?
- What support do I need?
You don’t need a “new you” just give yourself credit for who you already are and be a more confident, better-supported version of the you that already exists.
The university offers a wide range of support services to help you care for your wellbeing throughout the year, both academic and non-academic related. More information is available here. These services are open to all students, regardless of their background or level of student.
