Dear student,
The University is embarking on a new programme of work to help us develop better ways of working and operating in the future.
Student engagement sessions will be organised and there will be a variety of opportunities for you to input to the process. Information about all of this will be shared via MyAberdeen, email and our Student Life social channels. We’d love for you to be involved so keep an eye out to make sure you don’t miss the chance to shape how your University will change in the next few years.
The Challenge
Our current strategy Aberdeen 2040 outlines our ambition to deliver world-changing excellence in education and research as an inclusive, interdisciplinary, international and sustainable University.
Increasing financial pressures and a rapidly changing external environment, however, mean we must continue to adapt - embracing new opportunities and ensuring long-term sustainability while delivering our strategic vision.
Student needs and expectations are also changing. For example, more students are seeking flexible learning opportunities as well as personalised wellbeing and academic support, tailored to meet individual needs. And these changes come at a time when there is less resource available and competition from other universities is growing.
Our Approach
To address these challenges, a strategic programme has been established, called Adapting for Continued Success. Work has begun to look at all aspects of the University across four main areas:
- Organisational Design - Academic
We want to design new structures and ways of working across our teaching and research that meets the current and future needs of our staff, students and external stakeholders.
- Organisational Design - Professional Services
We want to ensure key University services like Marketing, Finance, and Estates are set up in the best way to support teaching, learning, and the future of our University.
- Leadership & Governance
We’re taking a fresh look at how decisions are made across the University by our various governance bodies to ensure things run as effectively as possible.
- People & Culture
We are also reviewing our values and behaviours to ensure they help drive the innovative thinking and adaptability needed for the changing landscape faced by the higher education sector.
More information will be coming – I hope you make your voice heard.
Best wishes,
Pete
