The Opera Society focuses on providing an opportunity for students to help organise and perform opera. Since its formation the Society has performed several successful operas including The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, The Magic Flute, Eugene Onegin and most recently The Threepenny Opera. The Society enjoys several social events throughout the year and strives to bring people together whilst producing high quality opera. In the future, we plan to expand further involving more people and producing more successful and enjoyable opera productions. We welcome newcomers to opera as well as seasoned veterans.
Our next opera production will be a double bill of Puccini's, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, under the baton of third year music students Cade Strathern and Dominic Gallo.
The Opera Society runs auditions at the beginning of the year to assess singing ability and suitable voice parts for productions. These auditions are also used to cast individuals in roles for a production. The auditions are very relaxed and involve the individual singing a prepared song or aria.
For more information about audition dates, please contact us directly or visit our stall during fresher’s week.
The Opera Society meets on Monday’s from 7pm in room MR055, in the MacRobert Building
