Our research involves the synthesis and discovery of novel materials which exhibit fascinating properties. We are particularly interested in structure-property relationships which enable us to tune the properties of our materials.
We are engaged in a broad range of research projects. Examples include ionic conductors, superconductors, magnetic materials and biomaterials. Our research is underpinned by state-of-the-art crystallographic studies at large scale facilities such as the ISIS neutron and muon source (UK) and the Institut Laue Langevin (France).
The solid-state group currently consists of five academic staff (Professor Iain Gibson, Professor Abbie Mclaughlin, Professor Jan Skakle, Professor Bill Harrison and Dr. Eve Wildman), one PDRA (Dr. Sacha Fop) and eight PhD students.
