Prof William Neill appointed Visiting Research Professor at the Institute of Irish Studies

Professor William J V Neill (Emeritus in Geosciences, Aberdeen) has been appointed as Visiting Research Professor at the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen’s University Belfast. The Institute, founded by the leading cultural geographer Estyn Evans, dates back over 50 years and was the first of its kind to be established in the world. Today it is one of the leading centres for research-led teaching in Irish Studies and is an internationally renowned centre of interdisciplinary Irish scholarship. Professor Neill will, inter alia, pursue a research agenda with a focus on the contested symbolic aspects of place in societies emerging from conflict.
