Students funded by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)

If you are resident in Scotland or in another European Union (EU) country other than the rest of UK and study full-time in Scotland, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) should pay your tuition fees. For all enquiries relating to SAAS, please consult them directly.

Applying to SAAS

You must apply directly to SAAS for funding for each year of your studies. If your application is successful, SAAS will send you an award letter within 21 days. You can track the progress of your application online.

Repeating a period of study

If you have to repeat a period of study or if you have already been funded for another degree, you may have to pay your own fees. SAAS can give you further advice about this.

SAAS student loans

If you are a Scottish student, you can apply for a SAAS student loan when you apply for tuition fee funding. There are no government loans or grants available to EU students. Loan payments are paid monthly; and you should receive the first instalment within 3 or 4 days of registering as a student. Make sure you have enough money to support yourself for those first few days and please check whether the loan payment is in your account before spending money.

Grants

If you are eligible, SAAS can offer supplementary grants or a Young Student’s Bursary. Please consult SAAS for more information on grants.
