Autism, theology and church – identifying and establishing critical frameworks for interdisciplinary research

The Centre for Autism and Theology, launched in 2018, is playing a pioneering role in the emerging field of autism and theology. Unique in its focus on autism and theology, the Centre aims to be an international and interdisciplinary knowledge hub. This project expands the Centre’s pioneering work and role through the organisation of a conference bringing together UK and international speakers from different disciplines with the aim of identifying and establishing critical frameworks for evaluating the intersections between theology and other disciplines, and between academy and faith organisations.

Beyond the academic impact of this conference, impact was created in the third sector by inviting speakers who are well-known as educators and trainers on autism in faith communities, thereby raising awareness of the Centre’s work through these speakers and exploring ways in which the Centre’s theological expertise may support the work of practitioners already involved in training.
