Samuel Bennett and Dr Louisa Lawrie from PERG alongside u/g student Rida Mir were involved in a project exploring innovative approaches to student course evaluation design that support richer insights and actionable feedback. Rida tells us more about the project:
Our project explores how student course evaluations can be redesigned to generate more meaningful and actionable feedback. By combining thematic analysis of historical evaluation forms with student focus groups, the work sought to identify gaps in current approaches and better understand how students experience the evaluation process. I was inspired by the idea that students should not only provide feedback but also help shape the way feedback itself is collected. Effective evaluation is central to improving teaching and supporting diverse learner journeys, yet we rarely consider whether we are asking the right questions. Through this work, we hope to develop more student-centred approaches to evaluation that can benefit educators and learners across higher education. Working closely with academic staff highlighted the value of co-creation and evidence-informed enhancement in teaching and learning. Our findings aim to provide practical guidance for designing evaluation tools that better capture the breadth of the student experience and support continuous improvement across programmes.
