Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is abusive behaviour directed at someone because of their gender. It is a result of deep-rooted gender inequalities and perceived gender roles within society.
It takes the form of actions that result in physical, sexual, and psychological harm or suffering or compromise a person's dignity. This can include coercive behaviour or denying someone their freedom. More information about what GBV is and support for those who have experienced it can be found on the University GBV pages.
