Pharmacies

Pharmacists provide expert advice or information on healthcare and help with medications. You can drop in any time, there is no need to make an appointment.

You should visit your local pharmacy as the first port of call for all minor illnesses and specific common clinical conditions such as coughs, colds athlete's foot, head lice and allergies. Some medication can be provided on the NHS for free, however if you want a specific medicine or product, you may need to buy it. The pharmacist will give you advice on this.

All pharmacies can also dispense prescriptions from your GP and most supply emergency contraception free on the NHS. You can visit any pharmacy to have your prescription dispensed; it does not have to be the same one. If you run out of your regular medicines and can't obtain a prescription from your GP, your pharmacist can dispense an urgent repeat supply.
