- Direct Debit (UK Bank Accounts)
-
Direct Debits can be used to make payment for Accommodation Fees, Tuition Fees and Staff Rents.
A Direct Debit instruction allows the University to take a payment directly from your bank account or building society. It is only available to UK bank account holders - not all bank accounts accept Direct Debit as a payment method so you should check with your bank if you are unsure.
You can choose to pay an invoice as per contract or to pay by instalment, the value and date of each payment is agreed in advance. It is your responsibility to ensure you have sufficient funds in your account at each payment date because you will incur additional banking charges if the request for payment fails due to insufficient funds. The University of Aberdeen will also apply an administration fee to your customer account if we do not receive payment by the agreed date.
Your payments are covered by the Direct Debit guarantee and you have the right to cancel your direct debit at any time and switch to an alternative payment method. More information about Direct Debits can be found here.
If you are the customer and the bank account holder you can submit a request to pay by Direct Debit online through the ePayments portal. If you are paying on behalf of the customer, you can complete the online form in ePayments but must print and send a signed copy to the University of Aberdeen. Payment by Direct Debit is not available to sponsors.
If your Direct Debit request is accepted we will e-mail your University of Aberdeen email account to confirm the set up of your Direct Debit. We will use your University email account to contact you if we have any queries or issues with your application.

Payment Plans
If you would like to spread the cost of your tuition or accommodation fees the University of Aberdeen offers the option to pay by instalment with a Payment Plan Agreement.
A Payment Plan is an agreement between the customer and the University of Aberdeen in which the customer agrees to pay set amounts on specific dates. If the University receives all instalments as agreed, when the plan is complete you will have paid the full amount of your tuition or accommodation fee at no extra cost. If you fail to make a payment, or your payment is late, the payment plan may be cancelled and an administration fee applied to your account so increasing the cost to you.
Separate Payment Plans are required for each of accommodation and tuition fees. All plans must be agreed with the University of Aberdeen in advance and are subject to terms and conditions. You can pay your instalments online through our secure ePayments portal or by Direct Debit (UK bank accounts only).
We will review your application and if all conditions are met we will apply the standard payment plan to your invoice(s). We will e-mail your University of Aberdeen email account confirming the set up of your plan, payment dates, amounts and payment method. We will use your University email account to contact you if we have any queries or issues with your application.
If you choose not to enter into a Payment Plan Agreement payment for accommodation fees and tuition fees are due in full in accordance with your contract. Payment plans are not available to sponsors.
Payment Plans can be set up through the University’s secure ePayments portal. Through the portal you can pay an invoice, an instalment or make an “Advance Payment” on account.
Tuition Fee Payment Plans
For Students Studying On-Campus Programmes (Not Including Short Courses)
Tuition fees are due at the beginning of each new academic year and are payable at Registration. If the self funded tuition fee due is £250 or more, the University offers the option of paying the invoice in four payments as detailed below.
You must pay a minimum of 50% of the self funded fee by the time of Registration, with the remaining fee being paid in three equal and consecutive monthly instalments on the 15th of the month.
The minimum deposit (50%) of tuition fees must be paid prior to the agreement being approved and preferably on-line through the Online Registration portal in advance of Registration. The instalment amounts depend on the deposit paid and the tuition fee rate.
If requesting a payment plan after an instalment date has past, the 50% deposit and the outstanding instalments must be paid before an agreement can be approved.
Failure to honour the payment plan will result in your payment plan agreement being cancelled and an administration charge being applied to your account.
Failure to honour a Tuition Fee Payment Plan may result in your student ID card being invalidated and your Registration being withdrawn. A student can only graduate if their academic debt is paid in full.
For Students Studying Online Programmes or Short Courses
You will be charged a fee for each course you register for. The fee for an individual course must be paid before the start of the course. Alternative payment plans are not provided.
You should refer to the FAQs for further guidance on tuition fees.
Accommodation Fee Payment Plans
Accommodation Fees are due in full 30 days from date of invoice unless a payment plan is agreed. The payment plan offered is equal monthly instalments over the duration of the contract. The instalment value is calculated by dividing the annual accommodation fee due by the number of months of the contract. The number and value of each payment is dependent on the length of the contract, the property occupied and the outstanding balance.
For accommodation commencing in August and September, the first instalment is due on 8th October with subsequent instalments due on the 8th of the following months. For accommodation commencing at other times of the year all instalments are due on the 8th of the month.
If requesting a payment plan after an instalment date is passed, all outstanding instalments must be paid before an agreement can be approved. Example Payment Plans can be seen here.
Failure to honour an Accommodation Fee Payment Plan will result in your payment plan agreement being cancelled and an administration charge being applied to your account and may result in Clause 5.2 of your accommodation contract being implemented.
There is a direct debit mandate on the eAccommodation Portal that the student can complete. Payment Plans can be set up through the University’s secure ePayments portal. Through the portal you can pay an invoice, an instalment or make an “Advance Payment” on account. - Other Payment Methods
