This information is for Undergraduate students who are thinking about returning to studies after taking a study break or withdrawing.
- What is readmission?
-
If you wish to return to study at the University you do not apply through UCAS but should apply directly to the University by completing a readmission form.
The University of Aberdeen recognises that life events can sometimes get in the way of a student’s ability to engage fully in their studies, and this may cause them to suspend their studies at the University or may result in their studies being discontinued. After a period away from the University, students may wish to recommence their studies and can apply for readmission. Please note that readmission to study is not an automatic right.
.
- How do I apply for readmission?
-
If you wish to return to study at the University you do not apply through UCAS but should apply directly to the University by completing a readmission form.
- Is there a deadline for applying for readmission?
-
Readmission applications must be submitted by 15 July for September entry and 15 November for January entry to be guaranteed consideration. After this date your application may not be considered in time for the start of teaching.
Any applications received after 15 September or 15 January for September or January entry respectively will not, normally, be considered.
PGDE students must have had readmission agreed upon withdrawal and are not eligible to apply through this readmission process.
How long will I have to wait before I know the outcome of my application?
Once your application has been received it will need to be considered by an Admission Selector. Their decision time can vary depending on the time of year your application was received. If you have concerns or wish to check on the status of your application, you can contact your Registry Officer at any time.
- Can I apply for readmission to a different degree programme?
-
Yes, you can apply for a different degree programme. Please just state the degree programme you wish to reapply for on the application. This will then be considered by the Admission Selector.
- What year of study can I return to?
-
This will depend upon the total number of credit points you have achieved and the specific courses that you have passed. Your Registry Officer will be able to give you advice on this.
- Will I receive financial support if I return to study?
-
This depends on several factors, such as your funding body’s regulations and the number of years you have previously spent in higher education.
If you intend to return to full-time study in the next academic year, you should contact your funding body informing them of this and indicating that you will be applying for your financial support to be renewed and discuss any concerns with them.
If you intend to return as a part-time student or apply for the Individual Subject Study programme you are unlikely to receive funding.
- Will I have to pay tuition fees if I am repeating a part of my studies?
-
If you have to repeat a period of study when you readmit, you may have to pay your own fees so you should contact your funding authority directly to inform them of this and to discuss whether you would remain eligible for tuition fee support. If your funding authority requires written confirmation of your repeat year from the University, please let us know by emailing your Registry Officer.
