The University will celebrate Climate Week 2018 from the 1-5 October.

Climate Week is a Scottish Government-led national campaign to raise awareness and inspire action on climate change. Organisations across Scotland will be highlighting the work they are doing to become more sustainable.

With a selection of workshops, lectures, and giveaways for staff and students, you can find out more about what the University is doing and how you can help reduce your carbon footprint!

Monday 1 October -  “Upgrade Your Desk Lamp”

How old is the bulb in your desk lamp? Has it been changed since you moved into your office? If not, it’s probably highly inefficient.

The University’s Energy Team is offering 100 LED bulbs for free for staff – all you have to do is bring your current inefficient bulb and swap it for an LED

Note: this is first come, first served, one bulb per person and exclusively for staff

You can find a member of the team at the following location and times:

The Pod (next to Subway), Students' Union Building, 10AM – 12 NOON and 2PM – 3PM

Tuesday 2 October – Sustainable Laboratories Technician Talk

Would you like to find out how you can improve your laboratory’s energy efficiency? The Energy Management team is hosting a Technician Talk where the challenges will be discussed and ideas will be shared.

The team will also monitor changes to equipment energy use in participating laboratories over the follows months and calculate the energy and carbon savings so you can see your impact.

Thursday 4 October – Energy Workshop

Combining team games and presentations to explain the University’s energy use, examples of typical energy inefficiencies and how staff can help reduce energy demand.

At the end of the session, attendees will be given a goody bag containing energy awareness posters, an energy efficiency leaflet, an energy walk-around checklist, and an LED bulb for a desk lamp!

Friday 5 October – Heater Amnesty Day

This is a chance for you to drop off any of those University portable heaters that have been gathering dust in a cupboard. It is also time for these heaters to have their PAT testing to ensure they are operating safely so come and drop off your heater at the following locations and times:

St Mary’s Entrance 10AM – 12 NOON Meston Entrance 2PM – 3PM
