Student and Youth-led WayWORD Festival will return to the King's Pavilion with a stellar line-up including alumni, staff, and Scotland's Makar Kathleen Jami
WayWORD Festival – an eagerly-awaited event in Aberdeen’s Cultural Calendar
For the fourth year running the University of Aberdeen is set to host the exciting student and youth-led WayWORD Festival 19th – 24th September 2023 at the University’s performance space King’s Pavilion, including headline appearances by Scotland’s Makar Kathleen Jamie, Claire Keegan, Christine De Luca, Liam McIlvanney and more. For the first time, we will also have a Day of Drama at Aberdeen Arts Centre and North-East Scotland College on 16th September and further events at Aberdeen Music Hall on 30th September, as well as in Central Library and The Blue Lamp.
Building on the success of last year’s first time as a majority in-person festival, WayWORD 2023 will offer more events than ever before and provide a feast of literature, traditional and classical music, art exhibitions and performances. Featuring workshops, author events, panel discussions, film screenings and performance nights, the intergenerational festival will as ever be FREE with BSL interpretation, and captions for online events. The stellar line-up includes Rachelle Atalla, Sheena Blackhall, Noon Salah Eldin, Kathleen Jamie, Nadine Aisha Jassat, Claire Keegan, Christine De Luca, Liam McIlvanney, Sophia McLean, Andrés N. Ordorica, Outwith Ensemble, Michael Pedersen, Alycia Pirmohamed, Chitra Ramaswamy, Jackie Ross, Saltfishforty, Cailean Steed, Robert Softley Gale, May Sumbwanyambe, Sean Wai Keung and many more.
