PhD opportunities

To help support students in their studies, the School of Languauge, Literature, Music and Visual Culture advertises several scholarship opportunities that are specific to the school. All currently open scholarships can be found below.

The New Kings Studentship - All Disciplines

Up to three open-topic studentships are available for Phd research within the school. The studentships comprise a fee waiver, and a limited maintenance grant and are open to students of all nationalities commencing their Phd project in the academic year 2023-24. The deadline for applications is June 2nd 2023. Applicants should be notified of the results by June 30th 2023.

Imaginate - Fully-funded AHRC PhD studentship

Applications are invited from prospective candidates for an AHRC-funded PhD on the value for children of experiencing live theatre and dance as audience members. This is a new collaboration between the University of Aberdeen and Imaginate, Scotland’s national organisation which promotes, develops and celebrates theatre and dance for children and young people.. 

The project is funded by the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities (SGSAH) as part of the SGSAH Collaborative Doctoral Award. If successful the studentship will commence on 1st October 2021 for a duration of 3.5 years.

The project will be supervised by Professor Amy Bryzgel (Visual Culture, University of Aberdeen) and Dr Jo Vergunst (Anthropology, University of Aberdeen) and Belinda McElhinney (Imaginate).  

The student stipend is approx. £15,500 per annum, with access to additional funding for travel and training.
