Letter Writing

As well as writing many poems and novels, over the course of his lifetime Walter Scott wrote hundreds, even thousands, of letters. Inspired by a letter written by Scott to his friend about a poem he had written, this activity combines reading, writing, and craft as the pupils write a letter to a friend about their favourite poem. The activities include designing a crest to seal the letter, learning an early nineteenth century folding style, and of course writing the letter describing their poem before passing it on to their classmate.A page from the PowerPoint with instructions on how to fold a letter.

Our Teacher's Note (Word: Letter Writing Notes for Teachers WORD/ PDF: Letter Writing Notes for Teachers PDF) complete with activity guide can help teachers to prepare for and teach this lesson, complete with notes for the PowerPoint linked below.
