October is Black History Month, a time to champion the contributions, celebrate the triumphs and look to the future in creating as accessible and inclusive an environment as possible.
The University is fully committed to being an anti-racist institution, and as such is consistently launching, adapting and reviewing our policies, procedures and working & studying environments for staff and students. More information on our networks, helplines, advice and support and wellbeing can be found for staff and students alike on our webpages:
Library staff have reached out to the student community asking for recommendations for our collections that highlight the multifaceted, interesting and glorious stories that several communities have to tell. We have curated a short list of them on Floor 2 of the Sir Duncan Rice Library. All books on these displays are available to students and staff, and some examples of them can be found below and in our New Resources collection.
Kwezi (series): Graphic Novels
Scatterlings by Resoketswe Manenzhe
Curse of the Black Gold by Ed Kashi
Racebook: A Personal History of the Internet by Tochi Onyebuchi
We always welcome ideas, comments and questions from students and staff. Please get in touch with us via library@abdn.ac.uk. Many thanks.
