Dr Andrea Woolner was delighted to welcome back Profs Alex Heazell and Mark Dilworth from the Tommy's Stillbirth research centre, Manchester University, for a visit to the Aberdeen Centre for Women's Health Research on the 4th November 2025. The team have collaborated on research including the PASTeL projects funded by Tommy's the Pregnancy and Baby loss charity. The team are now actively working on setting up the DAHLIA study (also funded by Tommy's) with Prof Fowler and Frankie Alcock (IMS) and Dr Oliver Rupar, (SCREDS Clinical Lecturer in Perinatal Pathology) which will focus on trying to understand the placental lesions involved in second trimester miscarriage. The visit provided time to strengthen future plans for research on second trimester pregnancy loss and stillbirth. The collaborative team are using laboratory and translational research, with epidemiology and hope to move into clinical studies in the near future continuing this collaboration between ACWHR, University of Aberdeen and the Tommy's Centre at Manchester University.
