Fantastic to hear from Kelvin Jordan, Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Medicine at Keele University, talking as part of the Aberdeen Curtin Calgary International Alliance Speaker Series. Today’s session was hosted by the Centre for Health Informatics, with the help of the University of Calgary Department of Global Affairs.

Title: Cardiovascular Risk Protection models using Electronic Health Records
Kelvin Jordan is Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Medicine at Keele University. He was the original lead of the Keele Health and Care Data Research Network (Keele Health and Care Data Research Network ) and is a deputy director of Keele’s Digital Society Institute (Digital Society Institute ) where he co-leads the Digital Health theme. His research focuses on e-health and analysis of electronic health record “big data” using advanced statistical and epidemiological methods to understand the burden, risk, management, and prognosis of health conditions and symptoms to aid clinical decision making and improve patient outcomes.
Kevin presented interesting results suggesting a risk prediction tool derived in the general population underestimates risk in a more ‘at-risk’ population.
There was a really interesting discussion about GPs being overwhelmed with prediction tools and the need to work out the best way to implement in practice.
