The Rowett Institute and INRAE Clermont-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Centre, France, are delighted to invite you to attend the 15th International Gut Microbiology Symposium, which will take place at the University of Aberdeen, Old Aberdeen Campus, between 1 - 3 June 2027.
The conference will explore the role of the complex microbial ecosystem present in the digestive tract of humans and animals in maintaining host health. A particular focus will be on microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions to advance our understanding of the role of these interactions in host welfare and health.
Sessions will include discussion of a range of topics including the microbiome as a driver of health and disease, the integration of human and animal health, sustainability and food systems, methodological advances, and the translation of research into health, agricultural, and environmental solutions.
Conference Themes
The 2027 conference themes will include:
- Interactions between microbiome and host across the life course
This theme will explore how interactions between the host and the microbiome shape health and disease from early life through to older age. It will highlight emerging research on the dynamic, bidirectional relationship between the microbiome and host, and the implications for disease prevention, resilience, and therapeutic intervention.
- Nutrition and the microbiome: emerging research
This theme will provide cutting edge insights into nutritional microbiome research in both humans and animals. This includes hot topics such as personalised nutrition, the impact of ultra-processed food on the microbiome, and the use of novel feed additives to improve livestock production.
- One health and the microbiome
This theme will explore the roles of different microbiomes within a One Health framework, highlighting the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental microbiomes and their implications for health, disease and ecosystem resilience.
- Novel technologies and translational advances in microbiota science
This theme will focus on novel bioinformatic and experimental approaches to study the human and animal microbiota, as well as innovative developments that move the field towards therapeutic interventions.
