'Intimate Religion: Devotional Jewellery and the Reformation of Touch in Early Modern England'
The Dr Joan MacCormack Lecture Series was established in memory of a former colleague and leading light in cultural history, Dr Joan MacCormack. The series ensures that Joan’s dedication and passion for teaching, learning, and collaboration continues.
This year we are delighted to welcome Professor Alexandra Walsham. Professor Walsham is Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Emmanuel College and the British Academy. She has published extensively on the religious and cultural history of early modern Britain. Her books include Providence in Early Modern England (1999); Charitable Hatred: Tolerance and Intolerance in England 1500-1700 (2006); The Reformation of the Landscape: Religion, Identity and Memory in Early Modern Britain and Ireland (2011), which was joint winner of the Wolfson History Prize; and Generations: Age, Ancestry and Memory in the English Reformations (2023). She was editor of the journal Past and Present for a decade and currently serves as President of the Historical Association.
