"From Queen's Grocer to King's Adviser: building a better working life for Scotland's young people"

Members of the public will hear from Ewan Venters who is Chief Executive Officer of independent hospitality company Artfarm, founded in 2014 by Iwan and Manuela Wirth, co-founders of the international art gallery Hauser & Wirth. Venters oversees properties including the award-winning Fife Arms in Braemar, Scotland.

As well as the Fife Arms, Venters also oversees Manuela restaurant in Los Angeles; Roth Bar & Grill, Durslade Farmhouse and Durslade Farm Shop in Somerset and the recently opened Audley Public House and Mount St. Restaurant in London.

Venters previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Fortnum & Mason from 2012 to 2020. Under Ewan’s leadership, Fortnum’s made record sales and profits and expanded beyond their historic London home into new locations including Hong Kong, Heathrow Airport and St Pancras Station in London. He also launched the annual F&M Food & Drink Awards celebrating excellence in food & drink writing, broadcasting & photography.

He joined Fortnum & Mason from Selfridges, where he was executive director for food, restaurants and online. In his seven years at Selfridges, Ewan was part of an executive team which transformed the department store. Twice in that period, it was named Best Department Store in the World by its peers.

During this event, Ewan will share information about his current role and then discuss the challenges facing the rural economy and building opportunities for future generations who may be drawn away to brighter lights.

The lecture, which forms part of the Watt Hepburn series, will be followed by a drinks reception and networking opportunity. The event is free to attend but places should be booked using the link below.
