Practical learning was a defining part of my experience at Aberdeen. Within the first month of my course, I secured an internship in Aberdeen, which allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real business challenges. Later, I was selected to undertake a live consultancy project in place of a traditional dissertation, working directly on a real-world business problem. By the midpoint of my degree, I had already gained two professional experiences in the UK, which significantly strengthened my confidence and employability.
The support I received [during my studies] was instrumental to my success. The Careers and Employability Service provided guidance on applications, interview preparation, and networking. I am especially grateful to my supervisor, Dr Esraa Karam, and Dr Tim Stone, whose mentorship, academic guidance, and encouragement played a crucial role in helping me secure internships and excel in my projects. Their support helped me move beyond my comfort zone and achieve outcomes I had not initially imagined.
Before starting my degree, I had ambition but limited clarity about how to position myself professionally in the UK market. Now, I feel confident, industry-ready, and strategically aware of my strengths. The combination of academic knowledge and hands-on experience has transformed my career outlook and prepared me to pursue competitive opportunities with confidence.
The most rewarding aspect of studying at Aberdeen was stepping outside my comfort zone. Managing academics alongside internships and live projects was challenging, but it became the most transformative and growth-oriented phase of my life. Being recognised for my academic performance and professional achievements was a proud moment that made the journey even more meaningful.
My time at Aberdeen has shaped my confidence, expanded my global perspective, and strengthened my ambition. I leave not only with a degree, but with practical experience, professional networks, and a clear vision for my future career.
I would say that if you are willing to challenge yourself and actively seek opportunities, the University of Aberdeen will provide the platform to grow. It is an environment that encourages independence, critical thinking, and professional development. The opportunities are there - you simply need to be proactive and make the most of them.
